ABOUT US

Purpose:

The purpose of Stockton Black Family Day, Inc. is to preserve, promote and foster an ongoing cultural celebration, encompassing family values and traditions.

Our Values:

Stockton Black Family Day allows communities to participate in a myriad of activities to help others understand, by their presence, that FAMILY is crucial to the Central Valley Region, the State of California and America. By congregating in a celebration in downtown Stockton and setting a positive example for young people of all creeds and races, this community event helps to reinforce values of educational achievement, healthy living, faith, creative aspirations, economic justice, peace and respect for all cultures.

Our Focus on Health:

Stockton Black Family Day unites families in a safe celebration that is tobacco, alcohol and drug free. We provide an environment where participants are introduced to positive activities, preventive health information and screenings, and a wealth of resources available within our community. Over the years, substance abuse, unhealthy lifestyles, and lack of adequate health information and resources have contributed to significant health disparities within the African American family. Some of the long-term health problems African Americans face are; increased levels of obesity, diabetes, asthma and heart disease. Overall, lack of information and access to preventive healthcare has been a detriment to our community. Black Family Day provides information and activities to help bridge the health gap that exists in San Joaquin County and beyond.
